Formed in 1999 in Brooklyn, New York City, The National is an American rock band comprised of Cincinnati, Ohio natives. The band members include Matt Berninger on vocals, Aaron Dessner and Bryce Dessner on guitar, piano, and keyboards, Scott Devendorf on bass, and Bryan Devendorf on drums. While Carin Besser, Matt Berninger's wife, isn't an official band member, she has contributed lyrics to the band's albums since 2007's "Boxer." The National's journey began with their self-titled debut album in 2001 and the addition of Bryce Dessner for their second album, "Sad Songs for Dirty Lovers" in 2003. With the release of "Alligator" in 2005, the band garnered critical acclaim and continued to gain exposure with the success of "Boxer" (2007) and "High Violet" (2010). Their sixth studio album, "Trouble Will Find Me" (2013), received a Grammy Award nomination, while "Sleep Well Beast" (2017) won the band a Grammy Award. The National's discography also includes "I Am Easy to Find" (2019), and four of their albums were recognized in NME's list of the 500 Greatest Albums of All Time in 2013.
