Originating from Wilmslow, Cheshire in 2002, The 1975 is an English pop rock band now operating out of Manchester. The group is composed of lead vocalist and rhythm guitarist Matty Healy, who also serves as the principal lyricist and co-writer, along with lead guitarist Adam Hann, bassist Ross MacDonald, and George Daniel who is the band's drummer and co-writer. The band derived its name from a piece of writing found in Healy's copy of Jack Kerouac's "On the Road," which was marked "1 June, The 1975."
